This is my piece for ”City of Man”, a group exhibition about the city of Manila. The idea of it is just different artists and designers coming together to celebrate the idea of Manila.
I wanted it to be about how small we all are in the grand scheme of things and how utterly massive and foreboding and consuming Manila is. That stuff with that kind of depressing hullaballoo. I love Manila though (?) but it’s just this huge organism of horrifying potential sometimes.
It’s happening at The PocketUniverse Art Collective, 2nd Floor, saGuijo Cafe, 7612 Guijo St., San Antonio Village, Makati City. Come by and check out the group exhibition if you’d like. I’ll be selling prints and also possibly the nicely printed canvas piece of this art I made.
Featuring the works of: Vincent Africa, Kasey Albano, Janine Avenido, Edrick Bruel, Rob Cham, Carl Graham, Armelle Garcia, Pat Manlapas, Heinritzh Sales, Carlo San Jose, Christian San Jose and Tata Yap.

This is the illustration of myself I did for Stache Magazine for a spread. The idea behind it was they wanted us to interact with our art, and our art being a part of ourselves, try and illustrate it, along with showcasing our own sensibilities and talents.
In the magazine, (out now for free on their website), they interview the art collective I’m part of known as Hypervodka. I, Kasey and Kitkat, discuss pretty much our takes on art, the scene, work, and all sorts of life matters.
Check it out if you’d like.
Picture by Pat Nabong. Thanks to Maine and Ellie, as well. And the. rest of Stache Magazine.
(I’m actually 21. I put 22 since I had no idea when this would come out so I assumed I’d be 22 by then.)

I thought I’d share some behind the scenes stuff. Here we see the draft and the finished cover for the book cover of Unscripted. I did the roughs and CSJ did the finished cover and the layout. Other contributions I had were just some illustrations inside and some minor editing.
The book is based on various interviews that Sarah Meier and Vicky Herrera conducted on their radio show, the Dollhouse, back when it was on U92 FM. It collects some of the better interviews and has some behind the scenes content as well.
There were 2 older covers that were rejected before they settled on this design. Once we settled on trying this cover out, we tried to incorporate a lot of words they’d use on their radio show’s word of the day gimmick hence why you see a lot of slang in there.
Unscripted was the first book Create.ph has designed for and it is rather awesome looking and well designed thanks to Kasey Albano and Christian San Jose who deserve a lot of credit for the overall look of the book and without whom this book couldn’t have been made. I must say it looks pretty dang slick.
The book features interviews with Gang Badoy, Lourd De Veyra, Raimund Marasigan, Imelda Marcos, Masta Plann, Tessa Prieto-Valdes, Jeff Cariaso, Carlos Celdran, Kate Torralba, Kuya Germs, Ryan Cayabyab, Jeannie Goulbour, Jim Paredes, Rico Hizon, and John Lessaca.
There’ll be a book launch at Fully Booked High Street, on December 15, Thursday. Drop on by and say hi if you want. Grab a copy even.
Fun fact: We hid a lot of Doctor Who and Adventure Time references in the book. Because we’re awesome.

hypervodka:

You want good designs. Designs that sell, ‘rise above the clutter’, and do exactly what they’re made to do. These designs are safe. We don’t make these designs. However, if you are looking for designs that take your idea and run off into the sunset, designs that inspire, and designs with oomph, then we’re the right kind of crazy people for you.
